Project Overview

The WEARCOACH project is an innovative Erasmus+ initiative that pioneers the integration of wearable technologies into sports coaching. In an era where data-driven insights are transforming performance optimization, WEARCOACH empowers coaches with the knowledge and tools to effectively use wearable technologies such as GPS trackers, heart-rate monitors, and motion sensors in training and athlete development.

By providing practical education, real-world testing, and a mobile learning ecosystem, the project bridges the skills gap that limits technology adoption among coaches. Through transnational collaboration between sport, tech, and education partners, WEARCOACH promotes digital transformation, inclusivity, and sustainability in European sports coaching.

Project Objectives

  • Digital Empowerment: Equip coaches with the skills to integrate wearable technologies into their coaching practices effectively.
  • Education and Training: Develop and deliver structured learning modules and toolkits to improve coaches’ digital literacy and data interpretation capabilities.
  • Innovation and Collaboration: Foster partnerships between sports organizations, technology providers, and researchers to co-create and test innovative solutions.
  • Evidence-Based Coaching: Promote data-informed decision-making in training, injury prevention, and athlete development.
  • Inclusion and Accessibility: Ensure that wearable technology education reaches diverse coaching communities, including grassroots and underrepresented groups.

Key Tools and Deliverables

WEARCOACH Learning Toolkit

The WEARCOACH Training Program and Educational Module provide coaches with structured, practical support to integrate wearable technologies into their daily practice.

  • Training Program: A step-by-step learning pathway (online and in-person) that guides coaches through using wearable devices, reading key performance data, and applying insights to plan and adjust training sessions.
  • Educational Module: A multilingual set of learning materials (guides, slides, and examples) that explains core concepts like data analysis, feedback delivery, and athlete monitoring, designed for both self-study and use in workshops or courses.

Mobile Application

The WEARCOACH Mobile Application is the central digital hub where coaches access learning resources and turn wearable data into practical coaching decisions.

  • Performance Dashboard: Real-time integration with selected wearable devices, allowing coaches to monitor key performance and workload indicators for their athletes
  • Learning & Community Space: Built-in access to tutorials, tools, and a space for coaches to share experiences, ask questions, and exchange best practices.

Wearable Technologies Self-Assessment Toolkit

The Self-Assessment Toolkit helps coaches understand where they stand in terms of digital skills and how ready they are to use wearable technologies effectively.

  • Coach Readiness Check: Quizzes and checklists that let coaches assess their current knowledge, confidence, and use of wearables in training.
  • Action Planning Tools: Simple planning templates and progress trackers that guide coaches in setting goals and taking concrete steps to improve their practice.
